It is my honor and privilege to serve those whom I have known for 40 plus years and others that I have known since their birth, as well as others added to the assembly as the Lord sees fit. I trust that God, by His Holy Spirit will continue to mature us all until Christ be formed in us (Eph. 4:12f). I didn't choose this path for my life, but I have freely and willingly embraced it as I daily trust in His grace to empower me.  One of the scriptures the Lord gave me, in calling me to this work, was (1 Pet 5:2f).
Pastor Fred

MEET OUR PASTOR

Fred is a loving and approachable man of God, dedicated and commited to the local body entrusted to his care.  Born in Danville, Illinois, Frank Frederick(Fred) Martin, Jr grew up living in seven different states and two years in the Netherlands.  Returning from Holland, in the summer of 1964, the Martin family settled in the Richmond area. Fred is a graduate of The Virginia Military Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Upon graduation in 1975, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant serving as a Logistics Officer in the US Air Force and rose to the rank of Captain, before being honorably discharged in 1981.

In January of 1979 Fred surrendered his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ and around that same time received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. He was later ordained as deacon of Living Word Assembly by Pastor Mike Guthrie. Over the past 40 plus years, Fred has been a faithful student of the Word of God while being actively involved in leadership responsiblities of the church.

Fred married JoAnn Detweiler, formerly of Augusta County, Virginia. Together they raised a solid Christian famaily of seven children, with one being promoted to Heaven at a very young age. Currently five of their children are married and together have blessed Fred and JoAnn with eighteen grandchildren. They celebrated 40 years of marriage in October of 2021.

After Pastor Guthrie's graduation to Glory in February of 2019, Fred assumed leadership of the church and some months later being called by God, Fred accepted the role as pastor/teacher of Living Word Assembly.
